We have made a few positive changes to some of the adjunct office spaces on campus. We have decreased the number of our older physical desktop computers and will be providing some monitors with connections for you to bring your own device. For those who do not have their own device, loaner laptops will be available at the Help Desk. Please full out this form to request a loaner laptop.
The decisions to do this were made for numerous reasons:
- Usage on many of the devices around campus in these spaces has historically been low.
- Many of the devices are older (in some cases more than 9 years old) and the loaner laptops are much newer.
- Many adjuncts bring their own device and we wanted to provide a place they could plug in and benefit from a second or larger monitor.
- Support for Windows 10 will end this October and many of our devices are not compatible. We purchased a number of replacements but felt this was a good time to consolidate that number down.
Please see below for any additional information.
FAQ
Q: I had data on the device - did I lose it?
A: Yes. We have all the devices stored and can retrieve it for you upon request. These will be available until October 15, 2025.
Q: Did you remove all desktops?
A: No, we removed the desktops from every area and will place 1 or 2 computers (depending on the size of the adjunct office) that are Windows 11 capable. Each space will also have additional monitors that you will be able to plug in your own device to.
Q: What if I don’t have a device and there is not one available in my space?
A: We are offering loaners as needed for adjunct faculty to sign out from the Help Desk in Taylor Hall. You can borrow a loaner from the help desk for up to an entire semester if needed. This allows you to have the option if you do not have your own device.
