The Information Technology department is always looking for ways to improve the security of our systems while balancing the user experience. We appreciate your partnership as we improve with emerging technologies. From the latest Windows updates, we are now able to deploy Windows Hello for Business (WHfB) to Windows computers.
The good news
You can now securely log into your computer with a 6 digit PIN code. This is optional configuration and you can still chose to log in using a password if you prefer.
The details
What is Windows Hello for Business (WHfB)?
WHfB is an authentication technology that allows users to sign in to their Windows devices using biometric data, or a PIN, instead of a traditional password. It provides enhanced security through phish-resistant two-factor authentication, and built-in brute force protection.
WHfB uses a combination of unique hardware from your computer, your user account, and your PIN to create a secure token
Who can use it?
Users who have a University issued Windows computer. This cannot be configured for Podiums, Classrooms or other shared PCs.
You can use your PIN to log in on your device only. Alternately you can log in with your regular password if you forget your PIN (Choose “Sign-in options” at Log on Screen and choose the key Icon).
PIN Protection. Treat your PIN like your password. Never share it! TIP: Press Windows key + L to lock your screen quickly.
What's next?
Facial Recognition. WHfB also supports facial recognition. Some recently-purchased computers may have cameras which support this feature. Biometric data will be encrypted and stored locally on your device
